The purposes of this final project are to describe loading and discharging process, to identify the factors that hamper the speed of loading and discharging process, and to solve the constraint of loading and discharging process.

This final project used descriptive qualitative method. The data for this final project are qualitative, quantitative, primary, and secondary data. The data were collected by doing observation, interview, and literature study.

The result of this final project shows that there are seven activities in loading and discharging process. There are checking documents, distribution documents, preparation,haulage activity, loading and discharging process, haulage activity and stacking. The factors that hamper the speed of loading and discharging process are less skill of the parties involved in the process of loading and discharging, changing shifts, readiness of the equipments, the amount of equipments, the high demand for loading and discharging activities, receiving, delivery and relocation, capacity of container yard, container’s positions on the container yard, natural factors and “approval” process. To solve the constraint of loading and discharging process, Semarang Container Terminal Branch held a training to container crane operator, rubber tyred gantry operator and trailer operator, give maintenance for equipments intensively, the priority service of loading and discharging at the time of high demand for loading and discharging activities, receiving, delivery and relocation, stacking containers in empty parts of container yard when the container yard has been full of container. They have to work overtime after bad weather occurs. They completing revisions of “approval” document in quick time.
